I had to reset my computer due to several different issues, and after doing so and reinstalling Finale 2014.5, I suddenly have this new issue: in Score Manager, I cannot change my staff's instruments or the sounds I want to go with them. This occurs when using Garritan as well as SmartMusic SoftSynth in VST, but Aria works fine, as does SmartMusic SoftSynth while in MIDI mode.
It's a bit odd, so here's a video of what happens in case I don't explain it well.

You can see that it doesn't even highlight the sounds as I mouse over them, and when I click, it treats it as though I've clicked on the Score Manager window to bring it to the front instead of clicking on.
Any help is appreciated!!

You might try using the Change Instruments utility, under the Utilities menu.

You reinstalled Finale, which does generate a new preferences file. However, independently, try to do that as a separate step, without another reinstall, just in case that's all that it is.
Also, is this with all files?

I increasingly experienced a similar problem and got tired of changing channels (which I often exhausted because only 8 are permitted per bank); so I upgraded to v26. So far so good.
Try changing channels for the instruments in Score Manager. Select "Next Available" from the drop-down menu. If you have "Playback through VST" selected, set Finale to "Playback through MIDI" that always worked for me, but then I often had to choose another sound for the instrument(s).
