Thanks, Vaughn!

No, I don't need it. I just liked having it for testing purposes.

Finale 25.5 seems glitchy, more so than usual, in Mojave. For one thing, Finale script windows now don't close after a script runs, even though "Give focus back to doc window after running script" is checked. In addition, Finale now crashes occasionally with Option-Command-U (to bring up Audio Units Banks & Effects).

Both problems have been reported long before the advent of Mojave. I wonder if it’s been fixed in v26.

Some interesting news with regard to Finale's compatibility on MacOS: it is often claimed (without evidence) that "Apple deliberately changes things so that old apps break".

However, a recent blog post has uncovered hundreds of exceptional "compatibility fixes" in MacOS for older versions of particular apps, in order to keep them working. Finale is included in the list.

In order words, MacOS contains code that says "If it's Finale version less than X, do this special thing to help it out".

So, whatever problems there may be with old versions of Finale on newer OSes, Apple is certainly doing what it can to keep Finale running.

When I installed Mojave onto my test drive, I used Migration Assistant and it pulled 2014.5 over. It and PM open and run as they did in High Sierra and Sierra for me—with the same issues.

Finale before 25.4.1 will not install in Mojave or High Sierra.

OT: Office 2008 doesn’t install past Yosemite but also runs in OS 10.14 if pulled over. Office 2011 installs after you get past the warning that says it won’t. I test these things.

Way cool. Thanks for the heads-up.

Update:

Got a great deal on a used iMac Pro and used Migration Assistant to move everything over from my 2010 a few days ago. After managing my Authorizations, Finale 26 authorized and is working great.

2014.5 and PrintMusic 2014.5, on the other hand, crashed upon authorization. Reinstalling and rebooting did not help. Perhaps, when I have the time, I'll troubleshoot and see if I can figure out why they worked over Mojave on my 2010 and not now... Since the only reason I kept 2014.5 running was to help people on the zendesk forum, it's a low priority and I'm not gonna sweat it.

26 runs like a top and looks great on my 5K monitor. The floating palettes, likewise, look great on my 4K side monitors.

For those who have read about issues with the T2 chip and audio interfaces: There were some USB 2 interfaces from a few manufacturers (Ableton, ProTools) that were triggering kernel panics from iMac Pros and 2018 Minis. Apple appears to have solved the problem with the Mojave 10.14.4 update. Just in case, I made sure that my new (to me) machine was eligible for AppleCare before I pulled the trigger and spent the $169 last night. I want Apple to own this and any other issue for the next 2 1/2 years.

Happy camper here. :D
