From the manual:
Grace Note Offset on Entry: Automatic Distance Between • Keep Current • Reset to Grace Note Offset. Enter a value here to specify the distance between consecutive grace notes. Choose Keep Current to leave grace notes at their current positions upon music spacing (use this option if you want to retain manual positioning applied to grace notes). Choose Reset to Grace Note Offset to set grace notes back to the positions specified by the Grace Note Offset on Entry option in Document Options - Grace Notes.
Can anyone translate this message to a very simplified English?

p.s. I want to respace the grace notes, by moving them to the left in order to make more room between notes. I want to keep that manual adjustments fixed AND at the same time I want them to be included in the music spacing calculation.

Upon entry I need them to be placed at the standard distance.

I never get it.

Anyone?

I want grace notes to be automatically spaced by default, yet when I move them manually they stay there fixed.

I've experimented a bit, but haven't found a definitive answer.

If you just set Grace Note Spacing to "Keep current" in the music spacing tab under document options, does that not do the trick?
Taken that you have automatic music spacing on, this should work as you describe.

*EDIT*

It also seems necessary to give Grace note offset a slightly higher value than normal. Mine was set to 24 which seemed a bit small.

Yes, but when I manually move them, they get respaced every time the measure is touched (applied note spacing or entered another note)

Keep Current does keep the new position (manually set).

I think we are only guessing as to the need as our experimental attempts are done with our own entries. If you could post a sample of what you are doing, we might be able to assess the situation more precisely.

Yes, but grace note look terribly misplaced.
Just to confirm: I ask here about settings for grace notes, auto spacing and manual adjustments.

My testing is without the aid of a precise layout with a specific set of notes. is it possible to attach a sample?

This is what I get with the default settings.

So, how to move these grace notes at the place shown on my picture, so that they stay there fixed in eternity, and at the same time not affecting all other grace notes in the score (created and to-be crated)?

Finale won't accept overlapping of grace notes and normal notes with any of the settings for grace note spacing. The only way I found if you want to use grace notes is to enter them as grace notes and leave them as they are till the end, and then turn of all automatic spacing and with the measure tool go into the middle handle and move the second 16th so that the first grace note overlaps. Repeat ad nauseam. And, you will have to do it separately for the parts.

Could there be a work around with layers, reduced size note, hidden tuplets & hidden rests? Complicated, but might 1) transfer to parts and 2) allow subsequent application of note spacing.

I would definitely not fight against this using grace notes. I did the attached with Voice 2, Tuplet as 2 8ths in place of 1 16th, resize to 60%, and Incorporate manual spacing.

I think I would just write the upper A-F# as full-sized 32nds.

I see, putting in another Layer is perhaps the best solution.

I used Voice 2, not Layer 2, but Layer 2 is another option.
