Hello,
I guess this isn't a question, just a complaint. I decided to go back and watch the quick start videos and go through the tutorials because I've used Finale for a long time, but use it sporadically, and thought there were probably some new aspects I wasn't taking advantage of.

I cannot follow the quick start videos. The background music is overwhelming the speech, it is annoying and distracting -- and not even good music just the same stock riff over and over. Is there any way to turn it off?

I have good hearing, but have students and family members who do not or who have auditory processing constraints. I doubt they could even understand the sentences. I suspect the person who created the videos is not a musician. It is really odd to be watching the manipulation of a piece of written music while simultaneously hearing something else.

I'm a big believer in well written, printed third-party books on computer software. This is the Finale guide which has gained some popularity:

http://www.trailblazerguides.com/

I've never seen this myself. I'm far from being a Finale expert, but at this stage I don't feel the need for more basic advice on the software. However, if you want to dig a little deeper into Finale this might be the answer. I know that if I felt the need, I'd purchase it.

You'll note that this is the Finale 2014 version—there apparently is no Finale 25 version. I'd purchase it anyway, because the differences between 2014 and 25 are comparatively few. Besides, the basic Finale concepts (music spacing, page layout) haven't changed much over the years.

You can buy a used copy on Amazon for under $10.00:

I cannot follow the quick start videos
I've never watched one of these videos, but, out of curiosity, I just did. You're right, this is the most idiotic thing I've ever seen, that is, heard. To have this imbecilic music accompanying totally unrelated instructions makes it almost impossible to concentrate on learning something (which, without the music, could actually be quite useful for a beginner). Unbelivable that a "music" company could do something so moronic...

We have to remember that MakeMusic is trying to appeal to a new audience who has a short attention span, and who has been raised on flashy, showy media intended to be passed off as "educational" material. Thus, the glitzy, "muzak" infused instructional video.

It's a sign of our times. The music has no instructional value. It's purpose is to keep the user's attention. I'm guessing that might work for some, but I think they missed the mark. They probably had an ad rep advise them on that one. Bad advice.

I'm glad I'm not alone in being annoyed, thanks for the comments. I wouldn't switch from Finale, but sense the company is less and less a music company than a software company. I wonder if they created a video to show people how to format a document in a word processing program they would use spoken poetry -- different than the sample word document -- as back ground noise. Oh well, back to reading the manual.....
