After reading Robert's review, especially how the new articulation paradigm can't easily transfer back and forth to v25, I think this is one update that I will need to wait-and-see before investing in. It seems that MakeMusic is not that concerned about how v25 doesn't relate well with v26, and vice versa. That is a concern, in my opinion.

to be fair, new features have never worked when porting back to an older version.

Read the article--this sounds different. You apparently can't just opt out of using the new feature. If you open an old 25 file in 26, check the "I don't want the new feature" box, then save it, the articulations will have been messed with when you open it in 25.

The more I read about v26 (from various threads here), the more it seems they didn't think this release out too well. Maybe I'm missing something.

It seems the bigger problems are with the Mac OS, but I can imagine Windows is not without issues.

Somebody please set me straight if it is actually a good release so I can decide what to do.

I know this isn't a selling point for you but increased speed of operations on the Mac is worth it for me. In the past I made most of my manual adjustments to articulations because Finale didn't position them properly in the first place so I'm happy with that new feature. I'll still have to check everything I load into v. 26 but I would have had to anyway. There are still many things which haven't been fixed or properly implemented, though, and judging from how long and how hard MM worked on v. 26, we may have another long wait ahead of us.

I have installed Finale version 26 on my Mac.
May I safely uninstall these past versions?

Yes and no. Uninstalling them shouldn't break v26, but you may find that when opening old files with the current version, some things look a bit different. If you're willing to check everything and tweak the differences, then OK, but if you perhaps just want to make a quick fix, it might be worth it to keep the version the file was created with around. I still do that with Finale 2005.

What Mac can open all those versions and 26? None that I know.

Ok, mine can if I plug in external drives and boot from them — but not and also run 26.

they have lied since the beginning of the 25 release cycle. They conned us into upgrading with no new feature-set, claiming that the move to 64 bit would facilitate quicker maintenance release cycles and bug fixes but the software is just as buggy and poorly thought out as ever. They'll be gone in a couple years

More likely it will be sold. Isn't the present owner in the exercise equipment business?
