Hello. I'm using Version 25 for Windows. I have not been successful in loading various libraries into new documents. I have saved libraries in which I added new elements, such as expressions or techniques, but when I try to load them into new documents, the new elements do not appear. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Can you help me?

I noticed that starting in Finale 25, library files must have a ".lib" suffix to work properly. I had some that didn't work and manually added .lib to the file name and then they worked as expected. Give it a try.

My first guess would be that the library actually does get loaded into the document.

When you e. g. load an expression library into a document, then the expressions already present in the document do not get deleted.

Instead the loaded expressions get added to the bottom of the dialog box Expression Selection.

In Other Words:
To see the loaded expressions, scroll down to the bottom of the Expression Selection.

Thank you both. I will check into both of those options to see if one works.

I checked the complete list of expressions but the new ones do not show up after I add them. Specifically, I was adding a breath mark before a note and one before a barline per the blog on Scoring Notes. These work well and I wanted to keep them in the Shape Expressions. I saved them in Shape Expressions Library. I then tried to load them into another document but they were no where to be found. I also made sure that the library had the suffix .lib added at the end. When I chose "Load Library," it showed up, but when I loaded it into a document, it did not have the changes I had made.

A breath mark is usually a comma, a font character. Font characters are usually found under the generic title "Text Expressions". Unless I'm mistaken, you'd have to save them in a text expression library.

Could you give a link to the article that gives instructions on this?

The commas should be saved as Text Expressions. Try this:

√ Go to File Menu > New and open a "Document Without Libraries".
√ Copy both of your breath marks into this file along with the associated music—only one measure containing the breaths.
√ If you go to the Expression dialog, you'll find only the breath marks in the selection box. If any other expressions appear, just delete them.
√ Go to File > Save Library and save a Text Expression library. You can load this into any file to have the breath marks available.
