How can I control the consistency of slur contours?

I spend an enormous amount of time meticulously tailoring out-of-control slur contours. I've done what I can with the Smart Shape slur contour feature, but most slurs are still mega contorted. Advice? Thanks,

The Slur Contour settings won't help you much. I'd take a look at the Smart Slur options. The picture below shows my settings and the result—you can give them a try if you like. There is a reset button in the Slur Contour dialog—I'd reset to the factory settings for starters.

I tried your setting and still get wild slur contour fluctuations. Might have to call in the big guys.

Could you post a Finale file containing that measure that you pictured?

I use about double the lift you have there. In EVPUs, 48 instead of 24, or .17 inches.

I also like my slur ends to be a trifle thicker, 1 EVPU.

This saves me from some of the worst exaggerated curves, but I still have to edit sometimes. Especially slurs on tied notes on ledger lines ending a system and continuing to the next system. Urg.

There is a discussion of this topic with various recommendations for settings at:

I continue to use the settings I gave in the thread with excellent results.
