Tempo not changing
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
I've just noticed something odd.
My template has Tempo Markings and style notes attached to measure 1.
That expression does NOT have any playback assignments to it.
My template has a default tempo of 95 but when I hit PLAY, it plays back at somewhere around 130 bpm.
I change the tempo within the playback controls to something drastic like 40bpm and when I hit play, the tempo doesn't change.
I will delete my expression to just test it and still the tempo doesn't change.
I don't have any other expressions added to the template either.
What I did do was UNCHECK the option to "PLAYBACK RECORDED TEMPO CHANGES" and that fixed the issue but I'm not sure how I would've ever recorded any tempo changes in my template.
How do I delete any hidden recorded tempo changes?

Select the desired region (e. g. Select All).
Edit menu > Clear Selected Items…
De-select everything (by clicking “None”).
Then, select Tempo Changes.
Click OK.

Either with the MIDI Tool (tempo data), or with the Edit menu item to Clear selected items. In there is MIDI tempo changes.

Ah. yes. Just did that.
Follow-up...
I've never used an Expression to change the tempo of Finale. i've always changed the tempo manually as I write pop charts and there's hardly ever tempo changes.
I'm trying out using my Expression to set the tempo.
I set Quarter Note Equals 150 and when I hit PLAY, the first beat plays back very slow and then the second beat plays and it jumps to beat 3 and finally changes the tempo.
It's as if it were "skipping". Somehow the first beat or so is still slow.
I've deleted all TEMPO information using SELECT ALL>CLEAR SELECTED ITEMS but it's still skipping.
Anyone seen this issue?

Right click the expression and in the assignment box, see if you can set playback for beginning of measure.

Zuill,
I didn't even know that was an option.
I did those steps and upon playback, it's still "skipping". It sounds like beats 1 and 2 are at a slow tempo and then when it hits beat 2, it's adjusting to the assigned tempo.
Can't figure this out.

Then we probably need to see the file, or at least the first couple of measures. Without a Finale file, we are just guessing.

I think the tempo is fine. It seems to be the click that is staggering. If you turn off the click, does it seem stable? If you need the click, turn on the option for a countoff, and that seems to work better.

Hmm. I turned on a count off and it worked fine as you stated.
I wonder if this is a bug within v26?
