Hi, I'm making an edition in which I need certain barlines to be dotted and others to be solid. When I try to select a dotted barline in the measure tool, it doesn't visibly change anything. I have the same problem with making barlines invisible. Do I need to do anything in particular to make this possible?

Have you tried making dotted barlines and invisible barlines in another document, e. g. a new document?
I mean, is your problem document specific?

I suggest that you attach a (small) Finale sample document here.
Without seeing an actual Finale document we can only guess.

My first guess:
Are there any staff groups in the document?
If yes, then what are the barline settings in the staff group(s)?

Are you selecting the measure before choosing the barline?

By The Way:
You do mean “dotted”?
You do not mean “dashed”?

Make sure you change right barline. Left only affects the beginning of systems and is generally worthless.

Without seeing a file, we're doing a lot of guessing. Another potential cause of errors in changing measure attributes has to do with a gug related to measure regions and selecting the option in some measure to not be included in measure numbering. In preferences, there is an option to show actual measure numbers instead of defined. Choose that. If this is a Windows only issue, then ignore the advice.

Just in case the bar you are changing is part of a group, make sure to choose "overide group barlines" that appears just below the choices for the different barline type in the measure attributes dialogue box.

I'm guessing the issue wasn't too important as we've yet to get clarification from the OP. Let's hope to hear soon.
