Is there a best practices way of enlarging chord symbols so they keep good spacing? Is finale 26 any better at this? Right now I am getting this kind of problem:

Ron,
I’ve found that JW Change does a good job of enlarging the chord font. You can go up to about 130% before things start looking odd.

With some more complex chords, the most I can go is 110%. With simpler chords, maybe 120% max. That's my take.

Just a reminder : another way is to use an additional staff just for chords, with everything hidden except chords. Resize the staff, and the chords will resize without spacing problems.
You might want to group the staves.

PS: I downloaded the trial of 26, with the chord "improvements" It's an ordeal to get the new stuff into an older file.

The so-called "chord improvements" are just a few extra libraries that include larger suffixes. There is no guarantee that the size you want will be there.

Michel P's suggestion of a no-line staff that only shows chord symbols is the best bet. You can resize that staff to any size you want without affecting the other staff. It's a terrible kludge to have to resort to, though. I wish they would actually make the chords resizable. We lost that option in 2007 and never got it back again.
