Finale v26 windows

Auto-slur melismas plug-in creates regular slurs, as well as dotted-line slurs (seemingly without logic). I am curious to know what criteria suggests it to use a dotted line instead of a regular slur, and how to make it such that it only uses regular slurs.

Thanks.

It might be helpful if you could attach a screenshot or Finale file so that the errors can be seen in context.

This is what the user manual says:

The Auto Slur Melismas plug-in scans a document for lyric syllables that carry over two or more pitches and adds slurs accordingly. This is a standard practice for notating melismas.

After running this plug-in, melismas appear wherever there are word extensions or hyphenated syllables under note changes. After running the plug-in a message appears indicating the number of slurs that were added.

Dashed slurs are added for any melisma that applies to subsequent verses (and not the first verse). Solid slurs are always used for the first verse.

Now, if we could just get the plugin to be reliable, it might be a useful tool. I find that editing after the plugin is applied takes about as much time as adding the slurs manually. There are usually a good percentage of slurs where they cover more notes beyond the end of the needed end note, and sometimes places where a slur is omitted where it is needed.

Looks like dashed slurs are used where one verse has different syllabification from another.

By the way, doesn't "auto" suggest "automatic? At first I thought this was a setting. But since it's a plug-in you explicitly run each time you need it, there's nothing automatic about it. "Slur melismas" would be a better name.
