This is how Finale seems to do it, by default.

I like it better like this. Is it correct?

Thanks. I couldn’t find it in Gould, but I may not have looked hard enough.

I think you might have an inkling that what you have there is not very good notation. I suspect the involvement of a MIDI file at some point in the process. I'd check to see if this figure is repeated elsewhere in the tune, notated slightly differently, hopefully correctly.

Mike,

I couldn't get the tie to flip the way you showed in the first example, though I did notice that the behavior of the tie-flips was different in Speedy and Simple.

Are the three Fs and the two Ds supposed to be tied?

I was just proofing it for someone else. But that figure appeared multiple times, the same way.

I know it's none of my business, but I'd suggest pointing out to the person you're proofing for that it might be worth cleaning up the notation. Of course, it all depends upon context. Is this a more "advanced" composition or arrangement, or a simpler piano accompaniment?

The example below might be a solution. Yes, I know that the original version has notes struck and held in a relatively complex manner. For more straightforward settings, this is a degree of detail rarely used. I'll repeat my observation that this might have originated in a MIDI file where these kinds of useless subdivisions are common.

Just my 2¢.

It's a piano accompaniment to SAT vocals. I'll send it on to the composer, and see what he thinks.

I'm guessing it's just a rote duplication of the vocal parts. I guess it depends on where the word breaks are in the lower parts.
