You can get the Minion Pro font for free by downloading and installing the free PDF reader program Adobe Reader.

The font Minion Pro is included in the Adobe Reader program package.

I can not give you detailed instructions since I am using Mac OS - I have no idea how to get the font in Windows.
But take a look inside the program package.

Perhaps a Windows user will step in here with instructions?

David,
Sorry, you are quite right. The underscore character (not to be confused with the underline attribute) does indeed work as you say. I was testing with an underlined hard space, which loses the underline attribute on output to XML. The downside, of course, is that you lose all the automatic smart word extensions in the piece and have to put them in manually.
Cheers

Thanks, Peter. Sadly the PC version of the package does not include that font. However, I have now managed to acquire a copy.

Minion Pro is free to download and use. I downloaded it, legally, and use it almost exclusively in my house documents.

My entire reason for starting this thread appears to be no longer necessary. Lyrics entered in Finale with non-breaking spaces, when imported into Dorico via XML, are interpreted and displayed automatically as elisions.

Concerning Minion Pro, for the last few years this has been my font of choice for my notation work, replacing Stempel Garamond which I used earlier. At the time, I believe it was issued free with Adobe Reader. In the meantime I have bought the Medium and the Medium Italic for slightly more bold expressions and titles, as well as Condensed for lyrics.
