TG Tools / Fin 26: Align/Move dynamics

Greetings all,

Today, I opened a Finale file in Fin26 that was created in the year 2002. I converted the articulations and am just doing a general tidy-up.

I note that the Plugins>TG Tools>Align Move dynamics is sometimes working but at other times having no effect when applied. Is anyone else experiencing this? I am wondering how to get 100% precision when aligning my dynamics and hairpins to average distance without the plugin, which I have rather come to rely on.

Cheers and best wishes,
Hector.

I've noticed the same behaviour with TG Tools / Finale 26. I just emailed Tobias Giesen about this.

Oy.

Is it hairpins it's not moving or dynamics themselves (mf, etc.)?

The 64 bit versions of the Align plugin (Finale 25 and 26) act kind of flakey on my setup. If you own Finale 2014.5, and still have it installed, you might want to try that version. Since the file format is the same, you should be able to move seamlessly between Finale versions (I think).

When the Fin26 Plugins>TG Tools>AlignMove Dynamics wouldn't work for me in this particular file from 2002, I decided to explore the Align plugin of TG Tools Professional Version 3 (commercial product) to see if that worked on this particular file, however it did not. (Motet, regarding your question, I couldn't get any elements to move nor align despite having the applicable checkboxes ticked). So in the end I decided to create a fresh native Fin26 file in the setup wizard and re-enter the whole score from scratch.(Single instrument, about 7 pages so not too onerous.) Initial testing of both align plugins (the one that comes with finale and the paid pro one) on the new file proved successful. I'll continue using it today and see how it goes.

In retrospect, I suppose it is a lot to ask of Finale 26 to open a file from 2002. On the whole, it appeared to do well, except for the plugin kerfuffle.

N., yes it is good to have my older Finale versions at hand, if needed. I do have a few previous versions of Finale installed and the plugins work fine there, though I'm on a crazy crusade to bring my old scores kicking and screaming into Fin 26 as a sort of future proofing and also to see if I can get the articulation positioning / stacks ironed out...

Hector, you could try opening your older files in Finale 26, converting to XML (File Menu > Export > Music XML) and then opening the XML in F26. XML is supposed to strip out any inconsistencies. It might be surprising what you can salvage if those files were pretty much default Finale.

Thanks, N., I will definitely give it a whirl :)

UPDATE: That has worked, the XML file has saved me some time and the align plugin is functioning now. Thanks, as always!
Cheers,
HP.

Could it be that your hairpin strayed beyond the measurs's boundaries when the new version converted it to beat-anchored hairpins? Select it and see where the blue lines show it anchored. If you don't encompass the hairpin in the measures you select, Align won't process it.

Hi motet,
I can confirm that the unresponsive alignment plugin is indeed acting on elements completely within the bar. For example the blue lines of the hairpin attachment start at the 2nd note of the bar and end on the penultimate note. Whatever the culprit was, I am able to wave goodbye to it if I export to XML and continue on that way. I have done that and all is going well. I may even get to the beach today, after all :)

Glad there was a solution.
