Finale 2015 startup error: Audio Engine failed to load

Hi all, I'm getting the 'Audio Engine failed to load' error dialog when I start up Finale (2015). I've been getting this error for several weeks now, but I've been working on a project where I haven't needed the playback so I just ok'ed through it. But I'd like to see if I can fix it.

I tried this fix (https://makemusic.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/ ... p-Windows-), but it did not help because the 'Reset ReWire' option is grayed out for me.

I got the error to go away by going to MIDI/Audio / Device Setup / Audio Setup - and then changing the Audio Driver to DirectSound.

But then when I open the Finale file of a string quartet that I am working on, in that file, I have now lost all of my VST sounds. They're all missing and can't be found even after a VST re-scan.

What version of Finale — 2014.5 for Windows or another?

What OS. Is it 32 or 64 bit?

What VSTs are you using?

I had the same exact issue and solved it (although I use Finale v25) and my Reset ReWire button was grayed out as well; at the bottom of that website there are two blue bars, one of which is labeled "Finale versions 25 and 26 and FInale 2014.5." I followed the simple instructions in there and no longer get the error, and I can now hear my music when I enter it in and when I play it back.
