Lock up during playback

Running Finale 2014.5 or v26 on Win 7 PC. When playback is in progress, certain attempted actions cause the system to completely lock up - no response to any user inputs (mouse or kbd). One action that causes this is to try to close the Finale window during playback. There are others, which I have not kept a list of - but playback is the one that is the biggest problem for me. On the other hand, a lot of actions do not cause this kind of a crash. Waiting until the playback is finished is not a solution. The only way I have found to recover is to use <CTL><ALT><DEL> to launch the Win TASK MANAGER, then force "end process" on Finale.exe. Is there a cure for this (other than not doing any other actions while playback is in process)?
