Hello, I am using Finale 2014.5 with a Mac OS 10.13.6
I have been reading the forum articles and have not found what I am looking for.
I need to add a Tacet to the end of a part and I can find no reference within Finale's Help User's Manual.

This is what I have...

This is what I want...

Can anyone help me to figure this out?

Thanks,
Scott

You can hide the "12" by right-clicking, Multimeasure Rests / Edit / Start Number At and putting in a large value like 999. The measure numbers can be hidden by right-clicking also. Then you can add "Tacet" as a Miscellaneous expression.

If it's really only 12 measures, though, such a thing is unnecessary, in my opinion. If it went on for a long time, with lots of different multimeasure rests and meter changes, then it might be helpful to the player so they don't start counting, but if it's one rest, the player will quickly see they don't play anymore. I wouldn't do it just to replicate whatever edition you're looking at.

Hi Scott,

you can edit the multimeasure rest and there is a setting, where you can enter a number with that you want to start the counting. (Sorry for my english, I have a german version. Hope you will find it...) In your case you should enter a number higher than 12...
Then enter "tacet" as text.

An even better directive would be "Tacet al Fine". It says a little bit more.

Thanks to you who sent in your suggestions.
I tried hiding the 12 by right-clicking and entering in a very large number, and that made the 12 disappear. I then entered in the "Tacet al Fine" which worked fine (no pun intended). Then I would go to another part that needed the same treatment and all was well. Then went back to the 1st part that I treated and there was that 12 again. So I tried making a pdf right away without the 12 being there, but when I looked at the pdf that pesky 12 was there. So my question now is, how to permanently make the 12 disappear? By the way, this piece has over 1,100 measures in it so this is why I want to put a tacet.

Thanks so much for your replys!!!
Scott

Never mind, I figured it out by myself. In Document Options / Mutilmeasure Rests "Update Automatically" was checked. After un-checking it, this unwanted behavior stopped. So, again thanks to all who set me upon the right track!
