Cross staff grace notes(non-piano)
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
I am notating contemporary music and I was wondering if it was possible to write grace notes cross staff on non-piano staves. Does anyone know how to do it. The image attached gives an idea of what I mean.

The image was just a prop to give an idea of what I meant. I have just realised it is impossible to use grace notes because they are attached to the main note and move with them. As you say the best method would be to use layers and make the notes smaller -just like grace notes. It's just so time consuming.

Nor do I see any cross-staff notes.
(And, just my opinion, of course... why would entering the notes that way be any more time-consuming than figuring out how to play it, on a seven line staff?)

When I look at Ian Moore’s attached graphic, it seems to me that the notes are at “normal” size (= 24pt) - that is, when I compare to the size of the time signature and the dynamics.
On The Other Hand, the distance between the staff-lines seems to be bigger than normal.
The “normal” distance between staff-lines is 6pt.
In the attached graphic the distance between staff-lines seems to be about 15pt.
Anyway, Finale can do that.
By The Way:
The rhythmic notation is not very clear.
It is hard to see where the 8th beats are located.
I would
- extend beams over rests,
- break beams before and after each tuplet.
