I wanted to replace a copyright that says
© 2000 Mark Carlson

with a more complete version:
© 2000 Mark Carlson (BMI)
All rights reserved. http://www.markcarlsonmusic.com

I copied the new version from another piece and was going to update just the date, but no matter how many times I try, it just replaces the text with the original one (© 2000 Mark Carlson). Even when I delete that old Text block and start with a fresh one, and try to paste in the new thing, the old one appears. I've tried this with several different pieces, and the same thing keeps happening. (It might have something to do with the ©, because when I tried to copy and past other text blocks, they worked fine).

This seems nuts. I can't begin to figure out why it's happening. No doubt it is some obvious thing, but I sure don't understand. Sure, I could type the whole thing in from scratch, which would take me a few seconds, but I still want to know why I can't do a basic Mac function in this one thing.

I'm attaching one of the scores in which this is happening.

Incidentally, this is the first thing I have opened up in Finale 26.

Did you make the changes in the File Info page of the Score Manager?

No, that is not something I have ever heard of having to do in almost 30 years of using Finale. Is it a new thing that the copyright info is included in the Score Manager?

Thanks,

Mark

The copyright notice in the Score Info has been there since I've started using Finale.

And if you want to insert that copyright text anywhere, you can use it's insert when the Text Tool is selected (Text > Inserts > Copyright Text)

I believe you, but I have been using Finale since December of 1989, and I was never before unable to change the copyright information through the Text block I entered it in in the first place. This is a first for me. And I really don't understand how this is an improvement, since just changing things in the text block itself added no extra steps, as having to do it in Score Manager does.

Yes, but I don't see anything that you changed. What should I be seeing?

In the revised file look at the menu Window > Score Manager > File Info > Copyright. The information has been changed there to what you want.
Finale 3.7 > 27.4.1, GPO5, ASUS laptop, 18.4'' display, Intel Core i7, 32GB RAM, WIN 10 Pro, Cubase

Here's a look at the 2 copyright notices.

Perhaps this is a Mac thing, because even if you don't know about the Score Manager insert, you should be able to paste into the text box itself (which replaces the Score Manager string). Works on Windows, copyright symbol or not.

Got it, thanks! Now that I know I have to change things in the Score Manager, I'll do that.

I wonder. It still seems like a strange thing, not to be able to paste whatever you want into the text box!

This may be new with v. 25 or 26. The way it works in my version is odd: if you select the text in a text block, it's a file info insert, and you paste into it, it changes it in the file info. If you've used the insert elsewhere, this can be confusing, and I think it's counter to standard UI practice. So maybe they've forbidden that now. What happens f you delete the text first and then paste? In that case, you wouldn't be pasting into the info insert.

In v25, I was able to copy/paste when selecting the insert field, and it updated in the File Info slot.

Motet, I do remember you reporting an issue about editing an insert after it was created, and how Finale didn't update properly in the File Info slot. Possibly that was only for manual typing, and not copy/paste.

It seems to update it with manual typing, too. I don't remember the issue you're referring too, only the situation that if you select all in the text box, what you then type or paste doesn't replace the text in the box (removing the insert and inserting what you type), but rather the text in the info field itself, which was surprising to me (at least at the time).

I also notice that Ctrl-Insert doesn't work in Finale; it should be universal to all Windows applications. (You have to use Ctrl-V instead in Finale).

I don't know what happened to Mark, then. The presence or absence of the copyright symbol affecting things is mysterious, too.

Thanks, Motet! At least, now I know what to do, in spite of mysteries.

Was your notice created in a font you currently have installed? The © symbol is created by typing Option g on a Mac (as I did just now).

Yes, that was all entered as I have done so for decades. ©

The problem, as I learned from this thread, was that I didn't ever know that the copyright notice was entered in Score Manager. Now I know.

Thanks.
