Pick Up Measure Gone Awry?

Hi,
I've been using Finale for about 5 years. Used pick up measure often. Went to use it this evening and it seems to have gone "off the rails". I want to use a dotted crotchet length but no EDU value appears (it stays at 0) when I select the dotted crotchet and no pick up measure is produced. If I select other rhythmic values they appear incorrectly on the score - for example - selecting a crotchet produces a pick up measure of a hemidemisemiquaver. The score is a blank 32 measure template in 4/4 time. Not sure what's going on?
