Nothing I am doing can position the accent where I want it to be. But it is inconsistent. Sometimes its right other times not. It behaves as if the avoid staff box is clicked but it isn't.

You might try some different settings in the Expression Designer > Vertical Alignment.

Motet,
I see now that he is listed as 2014.5 but in his post he says F 26, so you are probably right about the stacking issue.

Hi Mark,
I experienced this problem last week and, although I never got a full understanding of what is going on, I was able to individually workaround the problematic accents by creating a new, independent accent in the articulations palette, setting that to manual positioning, and then using that accent instead of the other one where necessary. I should add that, although this seemed a good workaround, I did experience an even stranger anomaly shortly thereafter, whereby the manual positioning of the said accents on the screen looks perfect but moved when saved as a PDF. So, a thorough proofreading was required of the PDF.
I am yet to arrive at a proper solution, however only one of my scores seems affected (one created in an early version and opened in Fin26).
Cheers,
Hector.

It is the inconsistency that is irksome. Some measures allow me to move an accent anywhere I want and others only allow the accent to be high above the staff or just below the note head.

If you have Finale 25 or 2014.5, do the accents appear properly when opened in those versions? (I'm guessing they do.) If so, I would suggest not using Finale 26 until the problem is straightened out. I'd send the file to Make Music and ask for an answer. They're not going to fix it if they don't realize folks are getting steamed up about it.

Yes, opening the file in 2014.5 allowed changing the behavior of the articulation.

It looks like a font annotation issue to me. Probably the correct font annotation files are missing in Finale 26.
You should recreate the font annotation file (Preferences->Edit->Font Annotation , select the music font and click on Auto-Annotate All and then Save).
This should solve the problem - you may have to restart Finale or redraw the screen after creating the new font annotation file.
