I've never seen this before. I suddenly have "TAB" text in multimeasure rests in parts. I've never used any kind of tablature notation. I've tried to break multimeasure rests and create them again, but that didn't work. I see no setting in multimeasure rest options for this, either. How do I remove the "TAB" from my multimeasure rests? I'm guessing the fix for this is something really simple that I just don't know. Thanks.

The MM Rest bar is a Shape, as is the TAB thing. It looks like yours somehow became unlinked. You need to find out what number the MM Bar is in the shape selection and enter that into the MM Rest options.

Just make a new expression, any category, and click the "Shape" button, then "Select". Find the bar shape, note the number, and enter that in the MM Rest options. Regenerate the parts and you should be good to go.

I use a different approach. When in Document Options, in the page for MM rests, enter a 0 in the box where you select a shape to use. Then click Select. This causes the selection list to pop up. There you can choose the shape for MM rests that you want.

I went into Document Options > Multimeasure Rests and changed the shape. That solved the problem. Thanks, N and Zuill.

The odd thing is that in my documents without this problem, the "standard" multimeasure shape was automatically selected as shape 1 and the tab shape was #2. In the problem document, the tab shape was #1 and the "default" multimeasure rest shape was #2. I no longer have 2014x installed to check--is this juxtaposition of the MM shapes part of the differences between Finale 2014x and Finale 25? I can't otherwise account for the switched MM shapes position.

The shape libraries are saved with the file. Do any other files have this switch? If not, somehow this file introduced something that swapped them. Did you load any libraries or copy anything with shapes into this file?

In my 2014.5 default document (which I haven't touched), the MM shape is in slot 1, but also in slot 50, which is what it's set to. The contextual Help for the Multimeasure Rest document option in fact shows a facsimile of the dialog, and 50 is in the shape slot.

Another terrible example of UI design. Why doesn't the Select... button select? There should be Edit, Create, and Select buttons, as in the Expression and Articulation dialogs.

Other files that I've checked don't have the switched shapes. I don't recall whether or not I added something to this file or copied something that might have caused a switch, but that explanation sounds likely.

As in motet's files, though, the rest shape in my files that I've checked defaults to #50. How odd is that?!

I agree with you, motet, that multimeasure rest shape options should have edit, create, and select buttons.
