Microsoft has just upgraded their Windows system and since then I have the following problems with 2014.5:

Arrangement will not play back, hit the playback key and the sound files do not load and the music will not play back, cusor just stays at the start position and nothing happens

Using the MIDI keyboard for entry, I only get B's on the staff

Downloaded and installed a new copy of 2014.5 and it did not fix the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Windows 10 often replaces device drivers with generic Windows drivers. If you have the Realtek soundcard incorporated into your motherboard, Windows may have replaced the Realtek drivers with Windows drivers. You may have to go to the motherboard manufacturer's website and find the proper drivers, then reinstall them. Windows might warn you that you have the latest drivers, but that's because it wants you to use theirs. I would keep the driver install file on your computer in a safe place for future times when Windows does this again. With the Home version, I don't know that there is a way to stop Windows from doing this again.

This may not be what's happening on your system, but I have seen it on others. It's worth investigating.

Are you sure "Use MIDI Device for Input" is still checked in the Simple entry or Speedy entry menu? If you reinstalled Finale, that's probably unchecked.

I have 2014.5 on Windows 10 and haven't noticed a problem. But each system is different, of course. I assume you've tried rebooting since the Windows update?

Thanks for the suggestions. Here's what I have done.

Removed the Microsoft drivers and installed the Realtek High Def drivers. Failed to help.

Reverted back to an earlier version of Windows 10. Failed to work.

Will attempt to contact support today.

Thanks to everyone in this group for helping. Went back and checked all the setting and the problem was some of the settings were changed. Everything is working fine now, just a little stupidity on my part in not checking those a little closer before going through all the the other machinations.

All is not lost. The Realtek drivers give more control. You should now have the speaker icon on the taskbar which gives access to the Realtek control panel.
