I am editing a vocal ranges document that was formatted by someone else. The measures are separated and have an odd square symbol with and arrow in it at the top right corner. They are arranged in three columns. (I have attached a screenshot for reference).
I need to make more of these type of measure to accommodate more characters in a show, but when I try to add more they get locked into an odd format and I cannot space them neatly. I have a feeling it has to do with that odd square at the top, but I am lost.
Any thoughts on what this special layout might be and how to work around it?

My guess is that the gaps are created using a staff style to hide measures, but I'm not familiar with the icon.

The arrow box means that a new system (corrected) had to be created (Measure Tool) for each measure.
To have several systems next to each other, 2 solutions :
• a staff style can hide a measure in between two visibles ones
• or (in this case, probably what was used), Allow Systems Collision was UNchecked (Layout menu). There are 3 systems placed next to another.

The "down/left arrow" signifies "start a new system" (Measure Tool).
Actually, you can use the "Create Coda System" plugin (in the plugin > Measures folder) to do this quickly. Just arrange each system with 3 measures each. Run the plugin on the 2nd and 3rd measures of each system. Make sure the right number of measures are present and the systems are spaced out down the page (Page Layout > System Margins). A before and after picture is attached.

Since the first systems are there already, you can examine the System Margins in the last three systems, write down those margins, and use the same margins in the following (new) three systems.kglong wrote:… I need to make more of these type of measure to accommodate more characters in a show …
To do so:
Page Layout Tool.
Click a system to select it.
Page Layout menu > Systems > Edit Margins…
In that way the systems will line up nicely in vertical columns.
