Change Symbol Font

I'm a nube here, so please school me if I need it. Thanks for any help.

I'm creating a music test. I want the sentence to say "Complete the measures with the rhythm you hear. Use..." and here I'd like to insert a whole, half, quarter and eighth note. I click on text>insert>symbol and Times New Roman comes up as the font. How do I change that to Maestro so I can get the notes to populate the list?

Thanks.

As an alternative to doing this sort of thing in Finale, you might also consider purchasing the MetTimes font and doing this in a regular text editor like MS Word. You're limited to using Times as your text font, but for documents where you need to mix a lot of text with examples of notation, this can often be a simpler solution.

To change the fonts and symbols for the text inserts, go to Documents Options > Text. It's at the top of the window.

N.

Thanks for your time responding to this.
I can change the symbol for accidentals, but not any other symbols. The drop-down menu only has sharp/flat/natural etc.

Is this the right window?
Thanks.

Thanks bkshepherd. I just purchased the MetTimes font. Look forward to making music tests much easier!

By The Way:

Finale comes with the font MaestroTimes.
You might find it useful - contains many music symbols, including rhythmical values and accidentals.

Thanks, Peter. I know that Finale has all that included, I just can't find a way to access it. I want to insert a symbol and i'm scrolling through 3800 characters, none of which are notes, rests or music symbols. Please help me see what I'm missing that seems so obvious to you!
Again, MANY thanks!

You can find the keystrokes for Maestro Times characters here:

Skouson, before doing Text/Insert/Symbol, do Text/Font to pick any font you want, e.g. Maestro. Then Text/Insert/Symbol and you'll see Maestro. There aren't 3800 characters in the Maestro font. Leave the document options alone.

Also, if you are doing text, you should be using Maestro Times, not Maestro. The first is a text font which has the music characters for just this purpose, the second, a music symbol font.

Since you can mix fonts in a text box, Maestro will work. I don't think Maestro Times has everything Maestro has, and perhaps Times New Roman is not what's wanted for the text.

(But if Times New Roman is good and Maestro Times has the symbols you want, then OK.)

The OP appears to have very simple needs, and MT will certainly do it.

OK, that's best then. Picking Maestro Times from the Text/Font menu in the Text tool before inserting will do it.

GNU FreeSerif font has all symbols in Unicode ranges, and also the notation symbols. It is also a free font.

If you are writing a test in a word processor like "Word" and Finale has been installed on the same computer, Petrucci Font is automatically installed as a font option, just like "Comic Sans" . If you go to the test and type "Use the quarter note (in arial) the insert a q in Petrucci font you will be looking at a quarter note. E is an eighth note.

I work for an orchestra and always go to my studio computer when I have to do this kind of thing. (Like write a rhythm pattern in a program note).

Hope this is helpful!

GNU FreeSerif font has all symbols in Unicode ranges, and also the notation symbols. It is also a free font.
And its Finale version FreeSerifFIN is also fully Maestro-compatible.
