Any reason that this WHOLE Page won't print ?? It only shows the first 8 lines on PAGE view, the next few lines are darkened out, but when I view it in SCROLL view, it shows the whole thing … But either way , it only prints the first 8 Lines , it won't print all 10 … WHY ??? I must have set something up wrong initially … But I don't want to have to type that all in again …. HELP !!!! …. Thanks in advance, Chris T.

Those staves are off the page. That's why they don't print. Either choose larger paper or shrink the size of the system to fit the page. I'm not sure how experienced you are with Finale, so I don't know the level of instruction we would need to provide to get the result you want. Check back if you can't find a way to get this done.

I ended up shrinking the Percentage down to 85 percent and then it fit.
I'm NOT an experienced user -
Also, I Tried to delete the last 4 Empty lines, but it wouldn't let me delete them. Why ??
I guess my question now would be Why and How did it happen ?
How did I end up setting it up Wrong in the first place - I looked fine.
And why didn't Finale just choose to start a second page instead of blackening out the part that wouldn't fit … ????…
And thanks for the responses.

Finale didn't start a second page because you can't break a system in two horizontally.
What happened to your attachment? If those extra staves were created by mistake and you want to get rid of them everywhere, go to the Staff tool, select the staves, and pick Delete Staves from the Staff menu. If they have music later on, select them on that first page and pick "Hide Empty Staves" instead.

I suppose you mean “break a system in two along a horizontal line”.motet wrote:Finale didn't start a second page because you can't break a system in two horizontally …
Perhaps it is just me, but I would rather say that you can't break a system in two vertically.
But I must admit that I am having difficulties wrapping my brain around "vertically” and “horizontally”.
When you align “vertically”, is it then on a vertical line (like e. g. dynamics on the same beat in different staves), or on a horizontal line (like e. g. expressions in the same staff in different measures)?

I was able to delete the staves , thank you MOTET !!
It seems that I could have fit it all , if I was able to " Pull Up " … Pull it all up the page where the big blank space was , I assume for a Title ? …. I tried the grabber tool, and the margins, but it wouldn't pull up. It's actually a drummers bass drum exercise chart with 20 combinations of 1 - 2 & 3 bass drum hits with the snare on 2 & 4 .. I think it's all of the possible combinations actually … that I got 25 years ago from my drum teacher, but I don't have "Copywrite/Ownership" of it, Not even sure that He himself created it, but I deleted it before someone got mad at me , being that this is a public page.

Sometimes, you have to adjust the system margins, particularly for the top system on the first page. Use the Page Layout tool to see the margins around each system.

I'm afraid Finale is not always intuitive, so there's no getting around at least watching the tutorial videos for the basic functions. Just looking at the icons and tools will prove frustrating, I'm afraid. Not to fault you--that's certainly possible with a lot of programs (especially those lacking documentation!).chrisfinale2012 wrote:I tried the grabber tool, and the margins, but it wouldn't pull up.

Even after all this time, I find I have to think twice when aligning hairpins, which have both choices. "Align vertically" changes vertical things horizontally! Is it a weakness in English? I forget--are you in Amsterdam? Are there better words in Dutch?Peter Thomsen wrote:But I must admit that I am having difficulties wrapping my brain around "vertically” and “horizontally”.

I know nothing about Dutch.
I would not say that there are better words in Danish.
Danish typographers have the phrase “to hold register” which means “to line up”.
And then you must specify whether the line is vertical - “lodret” - or horizontal - “vandret”.

To me, splitting horizontally means drawing a line from left to right. Splitting vertically means drawing a line from top to bottom.
So, if I was able to divide a 10 staff system between staves 5 and 6, and put the bottom 5 staves on another page, that would be dividing the system horizontally.
With Smart Shape alignment, Align Horizontally means to align along a left to right line. To Align Vertically means to align along an up to down line.
I'm not sure how this can be confusing, unless I am misunderstanding something in the discussion.

However, it is the vertical line by which they are aligned. To align horizontally means, to me, that they are all the same distance from the staff. That means they are moved vertically, but are aligned along the same horizontal line. I can see how this sounds confusing.
