Finale often likes to beam eighth notes in 4/4 as if it was 2/2. Especially when there are three eight notes together. I find that both as a composer and musician, it can make the rhythm harder to read because at first glance they can look like triplets instead of normal eighths.

Is there a setting to automatically break the beams between each beat in 4/4? I know how to do each one individually using the / key, but if there is a global setting that would make life 10x easier.

Nick, go to Document Options > Beams, and uncheck Beam Four Eighth Notes Together in Common Time.

To rebeam existing groups of four, Utilities > Rebeam > Rebeam Music
