It could also be a Smart Shape line or a staff group bracket.

Why do you need the Left Barline after the Clef?
Should the Left Barline also go after the Key Signature? - or after the Time Signature?
What is the problem you are trying to solve?

Please explain.

Looks like you figured it out to me. Make the first bar empty (you can use the "blank notation" staff style instead) and of minimal width. "Left barline" is special.

Ian Stewart,

In your two examples those barlines do not at all look like barlines.
Hence you do not have to use real barlines.

An idea:
Hide the real barlines, and add the “slash” barlines with the Expression Tool.
