Is there a keyboard shortcut for moving right/left when viewing the score in Page View?

In my case this is on macOS. I happen to have a crappy mouse with no right/left scroll functionality and grabbing the horizontal scrollbar to move around is a pain.

I checked and there doesn't seem to be an OS-level keyboard shortcut for this .

Answered my own question, sort of, by using the operating system to assign a key command to the Hand Grabber tool so I can use key commands to bounce back-and-forth between Hand Grabber and Selection Tool.

How much do you want to scroll? Command+Page Up/Down moves by a page.

I'm looking to find keyboard short cut for scroll right/left in "Scroll View". I apologize. I was told by the Finale people that I can ask questions here, but it seems like I am blocked from doing that. Any info on this will be appreciated.

The only time I use scroll view is when I'm initially entering notes. I use Speedy to enter notes.

While in Speedy the active window is displayed on whatever measure I'm working on, then to advance to the next measure I press "]" (right bracket).
Pressing "[" (left bracket) goes back a measure.

Hope this helps.

Command+Page Up/Down work in scroll view, too. Am I not understanding your question?

I do remember someone using Autohotkey to program keys to scroll one measure at a time in scroll view. I think it put the cursor in the Measure number box with Alt+U, sent Up- or Down-arrow, then Enter.

Are you asking about the arrow keys to move right and left? I don't know about Mac but they don't work on a PC. i have asked for that feature to MM for years but no love.

For me the horizontal scrolling in Page View works with Alt Home (to the left) and Alt End (to the right) in Windows. There might be similar commands on a Mac, but I'm not sure.

(What I would like is a keyboard shortcut for scrolling one measure at a time in Scroll View. But that's another question, already put on another forum.)

By the way, I just tried this on my Mac (which I don't use that often): fn + alt + arrows. The page does scroll actually. Slowly but surely.

For me on Windows, Alt+End goes to the very end, and Alt+Home to the very beginning.

For me it's Ctrl+Home that goes to the beginning etc. When having the right tool activated (not Expressions fx).

Interesting. Does Alt-End move forward one measure or a screenful?

It turns out I have the above-mentioned Autohotkey thing in my Autohotkey script (obviously, I don't use it, since I forgot about it!). This makes Ctrl+Shift+PageDown/Up scroll one measure, and should work from any Finale tool in scroll view.
^+PgUp::Send !u{Down}{Enter}
^+PgDn::Send !u{Up}{Enter}
!u means Alt+U. The same sequences should work from other keyboard macro programs on Windows. I don't think the Mac has the Alt system for navigating menus, so you would need to simulate a mouse click.

The more versatile AHK script which simulates mouse clicks in horizontal scroll bar is by Charles Lawrence (RIP) and can be found here (3rd posting from the bottom). This script has saved me lots of time.

How is it more versatile? It looks like it scrolls one measure to the left or right.

There seems to be some confusion whether the scrolling discussed is in Page View or in Scroll View. It's not the same.

As I said above, on both platforms I can scroll horizontally without any scripts in Page View. It's already there (for me at least, and I don't have any fancy equipment). The scrolling is a little faster in Windows than on Mac, but that's it.

The problem is with Scroll View. There you can't scroll in any other way than a screenful at a time, i.e. with a keyboard shortcut.

For what it's worth, here is a discussion about scrolling in Scroll View in another thread, on another forum:

The discussion moves away from the original topic, and I plead myself guilty of that, too...
motet wrote:How is it more versatile? It looks like it scrolls one measure to the left or right.
It's more versatile because it's language independent. All Autohotkey scripts relying on the measure selection box being available via the hotkey "!u" do fail in the German version (and probably in others) , because there it's "!t" (for "Takt"). Charles Lawrence's script doesn't rely on the language.

But you're right, it's only for left/right scrolling in scroll view. Actually, I had Anders' question some posts above in mind:

We still don't know what the O.P. wanted.

I conflated the O.P. with this guy--I thought he was apologizing for misstating the topic title.

But the O.P. said "there doesn't seem to be an OS-level keyboard shortcut for this" and then something about the hand-grabber, so I'm still unclear. I guess they want the display to scroll like it might in a paint program.

Simply press and hold Option and Command to temporarily engage the Hand Grabber. Scroll left, right, up and down. Release Option and Command and you return to the tool you've been working in. What could be simpler?

In Windows you can right-click, hold and drag. Even simpler. Not on a Mac, alas.

Are there still Mac mice with only one button?

I don't know. On my MacBook Pro I only use the touch-pad. Two fingers for right-clicking. A mouse would seriously disturb the eminently sleek design of a MacBook Pro, I would think.

A discussion about Windows vs. Mac could be put on a new thread.

On a Mac with a touchpad you can scroll in the document window with two fingers in all directions.
Works basically the same as holding down Option and Command to temporarily engage the Hand Grabber Tool.
