Hi Forum,

Finale v.25

Is there a trick to rename the individual staffs of keyboard-style groups (Piano, Harp, etc.)?
The thought behind it is the confusion you sometimes get when having to select them in certain menus.

Thank you,
Best,

What's the scenario for which you need to rename the staves? It would help to know that to give the best advice.

My guess is that this probably relates to Finale's irritating habit of referring to the individual staves in ‘grand staffs’ as ‘staff 23, staff 24’ &c in various menus instead of incorporating the group name and showing something like ‘harp staff 1, harp staff 2’ &c.

Anyway, to the original poster, if you use the contextual menu to give each affected stave a ‘full staff name’ and then hide it so it doesn't print, this should help.

Generally, there's no need to have names for the 2 staves in a grand staff instrument like Piano. I suppose if we knew why the staff names are needed, we might be able to make the best suggestion as to the situation.

Yes, this is the reason.
Seeing keyboard-style staffs in certain context menus as 'staff xy' can be confusing.
The problem is that the individual staffs of keyboard-style instruments can't be renamed in the score-editor.
It's a minor fix, but it would save a couple seconds here and there.

Can you give me a hand? Which contextual menu are we talking about?

Thanks,
