Greetings all!

I have downloaded the trial version of Finale 26.1 and want to programme add dot (to num pad ‘1/end’) and add tie (to num pad ‘0/INS’) via TG Tools > Keyboard shortcuts. I find these incredibly useful in my everyday Finale use (F-2011). Well, I can’t get them to work in 26.1.

The dot command puts two dots after the note! And the tie command doesn’t work at all. I remember Zuill complaining about this on the old Forum (August 2016). Has it not been fixed yet, or am I doing something wrong?

As I recall the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of TGTools can't coexist. Perhaps Zuill will have more information.

Yes. The 64-bit version of Finale corrupts the file stored in the Registry, making it unusable if using a 32-bit Finale version. I was hoping Tobias would have a fix for this, but I don't think so.

Thank you, Zuill, for the explanation. Do I understand, then, that the only way to get these two shortcuts to work in 26.1 will be to totally delete F-2011 from my system? I’m not all that keen on doing that at the moment, so I suspect that Make Music is about to lose a sale.

I regret I don’t understand Motet’s second reply at all. What is a registry key? Do you mean to link the shortcut to a different key on the computer keyboard? I did try that last night and it didn’t work. What surprised me, when I went back to F-2011 after all my efforts in 26.1, was that the two shortcuts had been deleted in F2011 and I had to reprogram them! (Successfully, I hasten to add.) Even more surprising and annoying is that when I went over to Word a little later to type a letter in Esperanto, all my programmed shortcuts for the accented letters (ĝ, ŭ, ŝ etc) had disappeared and needed re-programming. This can only be due to my attempted programming of the shortcuts in Finale 26.1.

What I found was that I could program shortcuts in v25 (v26, as you have experienced, has the same behavior), but then going back to an earlier version of Finale (32-bit) corrupts the shortcuts. So, they will now work in the 64-bit version, but not the 32-bit version. I can go back to the 32-bit version and reprogram the shortcuts. They will now work properly again. However, if you open the plugin in the 64-bit program, the 32-bit shortcuts will get corrupted again.

So, it seems neither MakeMusic or Tobias Giesen have addressed this issue. Either it is not fixable, or they don't care to fix it. Maybe they aren't aware there is a problem? I doubt that. One never knows.

The Windows Registry is a place where both Windows and applications store settings and other information. A "key" is a pointer to one of those entries. The TGTools key is HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SOMUSQUE. The 32- and 64-bit versions of what it puts there evidently conflict. A solution would be to make a new key for the 64-bit version, say HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SOMUSQUE64.

It's possible to save and restore things from the Registry in files, and barring separate 32- and 64-bit keys, one could instead save 32- and 64-bit versions of the data and restore the desired one whenever switching versions.

Thanks, Motet for your further explanation. I'm sure your plan would work just fine with someone who is brave enough to fiddle with the registry, but I'm afraid that I really don't want to start anything like that.

I'll just let the free trial run its course and continue with F-2011 which works perfectly fine for me in fact.
