Hello all,

I am using Finale 26 on Windows. I was wondering if there's a way to mute certain notes on certain repeats of playback. I am working on a choral piece and in some verses the words have a few more syllables than others (for example, in one verse I have the word "Monday" on a quarter note and an eighth, in another verse the word "Saturday" falls in the same spot and is across three eighth notes) and I'm wondering if it's possible to mute certain notes on playback in only the specific verses/repeats where the note isn't sung.

Thank you.

I haven't tested this, but could you have the notes for the verses in different layers, assign the layers to different channels, and use an expression to play different channels on different passes?

Does that help?

That's the way to do it, but it's much easier (IMNSHO) to simply have two scores: one for print, and one for playback, written out with each verse separate.

I have no idea how to do an expression like that so I think simply writing out the verses might be easier. Thank you!

Setting Velocity works fine with GM and SmartMusic Softsynth, but changing the channel works for that and for Garritan and VST.

So, I made a small demo using the change-channel approach. I chose to change the channel to 150, as that is well outside the available channels.

P.S.: For this demo, I used one expression to mute layer 2 on pass 1, and another expression to play layer 2 on pass 2.

I use this approach all the time for sound files.
