Hi forum,

Finale V25

What I'm looking for is a dashed rall. line (rall._ _ _ _) with an automatic behavior. You place them on the top staff and they automatically show into the individual parts.

Naturally, the smart shape tool does not behave this way, the shapes only appear in the part in which they're placed.

I'm thinking of the possibilities you have with the expression tool; the visibility for tempo-categories can be changed in the score-list (allowing to show them on individual staffs, top/bottom-staff, etc.).

Is there a way for automatic behavior or do I go without the line?

Thanks,
apkyburz

I believe you're out of luck here. What I do in this case is to copy them to all the staves, unlink them in all parts, then select to not have them show in the score. A bit of a kludge, but the only approach I know of.

P.S.: There is another solution: create a Shape Expression. Not for the faint of heart, but doable.

You can't do that within Finale alone. You can, however, do it using the free JW Change plugin. Use the command Smart Shape Lines > Visibility > Score List Visibility. Score List 1 usually shows only on the top staff, or top staff and another staff midway down the score. Enter the smart line on every stave of the score, and run the plugin. It will show only on the first score stave, as well as on every part.

The JWChange plugin basically does what I said, but automates the 2nd and 3rd steps. Saves a bit of time. That plugin is a real time saver.

Okay, that's a pretty good workaround.

Jari Williamson did such a great job on these plugins.

Thank you guys,
