Can anyone explain this? Phantom Apple logo

For some reason, when I print to PDF there is an Apple logo imposed where it wasn't in the Finale file.
It's basically where I'm hiding a note head. I do this elsewhere but there's no logo inserted. No idea why this is happening here.
Any ideas how to fix this? (attached is the Finale and PDF versions)

If you “print” to PDF, you get a PDF file which is not true Black-and-White.MowingDevil wrote:… when I print to PDF …
Instead you can use the Graphics Tool to export as PDF (this is actually a little faster than “printing” to PDF):
Graphics menu > Export Pages…
By exporting from the Graphics Tool you might solve your “Apple logo” problem.
You will also get a true Black-and-White PDF, and the resulting file size will be smaller.

The Apple symbol exists in some fonts.
If you used a "blank symbol" to create the notehead, try another blank symbol.
P.S.: a Finale file would be more useful than a screenshot to identify the problem.

Peter, your solution didn't work but thank you for that. I was not aware printing a PDF wasn't true black & white. I'll export from now on.
Michel, I sense your suggestion will be the answer. The blank notehead I selected for that one must have been different than others (who knew) and actually a secret (PDF only?) logo. Cheers.

Selecting PDF from the Print menu on a Mac is greyscale in 25 and 26—the workaround is using Gaphics/Export as posted earlier. In 2014.5 as your signature indicates, print to PDF is true black.MowingDevil wrote:Peter, your solution didn't work but thank you for that. I was not aware printing a PDF wasn't true black & white. MakeMusic has never explained why they did this nor why it’s Mac only. Neither have they acknowledged it as a bug though we’ve been complaining for 2 1/2 years.

To me, "grayscale" would mean that things are basically black, but with gray at the transitions between black and white to give things a smoother edge. Is this not the case? Is everything a lighter gray?
I generally do grayscale scanning. If you use just two colors, black and white, things can have a jagged look.

It depends on the characteristics (or settings?) of the selected Printer in the print menu, when you make the PDF.MikeHalloran wrote: MakeMusic has never explained why they did this nor why it’s Mac only. Neither have they acknowledged it as a bug though we’ve been complaining for 2 1/2 years.
PDFs Saved when my HP LaserJet 5200 (mono) printer is selected come out as 100% K. I also have a Generic Colour PostScript print queue, and that also produces 100% K, so not all colour printers are affected. It may even be a setting thing, like having ColorSync turned on.
Why this problem is unique to Finale: well, that's a matter for MM. And the output from Save As PDF was flaky for much longer than 2.5 years. There was a time when some elements were RGB and some Black.... Anyway, I'm past caring now.

I've complained about this to MM. I have a Brother MFC-L2740DW printer. A customer rep and I went through a myriad of experiments and tests, all of which did not solve the problem. MM blamed Apple, so you can count on MM's ignoring this bug.MikeHalloran wrote: MakeMusic has never explained why they did this nor why it’s Mac only.
