Setting shortcuts to open miditools and apply human playback

Hi,

I'd like to know how to program two keyboard shortcuts in finale windows version: one to open the midi tools menu, and another just to directly apply human playback (one of the options in that menu)

In a related question, on Macs its possible to press Command+Option+ (F,G,H,I,J,.K,L, or ;) to program metatools. Is it possible to achieve what Im trying to by programming metatools on Windows version? If so, how do I do this?

Thanks.

On Windows, Alt-D will pull down the MIDI/Audio menu, if that's what you mean. That's what the underlined letters in the menu bar mean.

Check out Plug-ins/TGTools/Menu shortcuts. You can program hotkeys to pretty much do anything with menus and submenus.

On Windows, select a tool and press shift+any of the keys f2 to f12 to program a shortcut to the selected tool. Then just press the assigned f key. (On my PC f10 and f12 do not work - I don't know why, but it doesn't matter. 9 keys are enough for me.)

The problem is the Midi Menu disappears when you finish using the tool. Is there any way to 'lock' the menu with the midi entry there, or force it to stay there when switching tools?

Thanks. F1 launches online help for me. The keys keys seem to be working though.

Not sure what you mean by "with the midi entry there." You want the menu to stayed pulled down? The Windows UI doesn't work that way.

Look at the TGTools thing. You can assign a key to the MIDI menu and then an item on the menu.

I mean 'Midi Tool' only appears in the menu bar as a drop down after you click on the midi tool icon. Is there any way to lock it there in the menu permanently?

When you switch to the MIDI Tool, the MIDI menu appears, as you state. When you switch to another tool, the MIDI menu is replaced by the menu for that tool. Why would you want the MIDI menu to remain when it is useless because another tool is active?

N.

Simple answer: no

As an example for a workaround, I have F1 programmed for the lyric tool, F2 For Type into Score, F3 for Adjust Word Extensions, and F4 for Specify current lyric. Two quick taps, almost simultaneous, and I’m right where I want to be.

Sorry, I thought you meant the MIDI/Audio menu when I answered earlier. You could write a FinaleScript macro to open the Apply Human Playback dialog

Code: Select all

midi tool
menu item "Apply human playback..."
and assign it to a hotkey. This should work from anywhere. Hotkeys like Ctrl-Alt-letter are best as they're least likely to conflict with some built-in hotkey.

Good stuff. With the shortcuts, particularly the macros, I'm all set.
