Page orientation unexpectedly changed

Finale 25 / Windows

I entered a score in scroll view, but when I switched to page view, about half the pages (pages 9 through 14 of 14) were in portrait rather than the landscape I oringinaly started with. I changed the orientation to landscape on those pages, but the staves still run off the page. I didn't add pages as I was working - at least not knowingly. Not sure what went wrong or how to correct. Before I start playing with resizing, thought I'd ask the experts! I'm attaching a screen shot to help explain. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Rich

There are ways to get things right. For me, the easiest is to, in the Resize Tool, to right click on the system on the left and choose to resize systems from there to the end of the document. The other approach can be described here if this suggestion fails.

yup, that worked. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to make things worse. Now, if I could only figured out what I did to cause it...

Thanks for the help!

I'm guessing the new pages are following the setup in Document/Page Format/Score. You probably changed the System size originally in the score, manually, but not in that window. To get all the new pages to be the right format, you need to set up the correct information in the above mentioned page (window).

What I would do is go to the Page Layout tool and check "Update Page Layout for Score" on the menu. Then pick "Page Size". The dialog should be set to whatever page 1's size is. Make sure "All pages" is selected and click OK. Then do the same with "Edit page margins." The document page format will now be updated so if you create any future pages, they will conform to the others.

Just checked, and, yes, in that window, portrait is set by default. I usually use the wizzard when starting a new project, so I'll change that window in the future and maybe that will avoid the problem.

Thank you...I didn't catch that score update, though it is checked in the menu. I had tried the update layout under Utilities and that didn't help. I seem to learn something everytime I use this program.

Update Layout is something entirely different. Confusing!

I had an odd page format thing happen to me, too. I was reworking and older Finale file, 2009, I believe. I needed to add some pages to the end of the score. They all came in as octavo landscape size which was the size set for the parts. I could not see where anything was set incorrectly but I may have missed something. Not a big deal to fix but odd to say the least.

It looks to me like the new page's system is just resized incorrectly.

This often happens if you add instruments to the score later on, or the systems reflow onto a new page.

You can either use the resize tool and/or page layout tool to fix each of the following systems manually, or you can use a JW Lua script I wrote a couple years ago to do this automatically. It spaces each system out to be the same height of the page.

Hope this helps
