Yesterday my computer froze as reliably as ever and I had to hold down my power button to reset it. I had a file open at the time that now won't open. I can't restore to previous versions since there are none (which came to a surprise to me).

Now when I try to open it (and only it), I get the following messages one after another:

Cannot delete file "C:\Users\mjca\AppData\Local\Temp\FINC67.tmp\mimetype" The system cannot find the path specified.

Cannot delete file "C:\Users\mjca\AppData\Local\Temp\FINC67.tmp\META-INF\Container.xml" The system cannot find the path specified.

Cannot delete file "C:\Users\mjca\AppData\Local\Temp\FINC67.tmp\score.dat" The system cannot find the path specified.

Cannot delete folder "C:\Users\mjca\AppData\Local\Temp\FINC67.tmp\META-INF"

Cannot create file "*file location and name*"

What do I do? How do I restore my file?

Many thanks.

Finale uses tmp files only while the current session lasts. Once Finale is closed 9and in your case during a computer crash) those files are no longer available or accessible. Look for a .bak or .asv file and hopefully that will have most of your work. What are your Autosave settings, by the way? Did you save the file at any point before the crash?

No autosave, but backups are made.

Where would the .bak or .asv be found?

To be honest, I can't say. When I install Finale, each and every version, I customize the folders. However, look in Preferences, and, under Folders, it should tell you the paths to the various kind of files (.musx, .bakx and .asvx)

Look at Preferences/Save. If the Autosave box is not checked, you won't find a .asvx file.

in the Folders tab, look at Backup and Auto Save. If they're blank, then they would be saved in the same folder the .musx file was in.

You might try navigating to C:\Users\mjca\AppData\Local\Temp in Windows Explorer and removing FINC67.tmp (with Finale not running).
