Things randomly stop working

I recently purchased a new laptop for Xmas. There was much excitement in downloading Finale 2014.5 for Windows. Sadly, the excitement didn't last long as once i started working with it placing articulations, dynamis, expressions, etc stopped working.

Well, i shouldn't say stopped working. But the system decided that everything needed the same designation. That is to say, i wanted to insert an accent and it would attempt to insert a breath mark, for example.

Has anyone else had this issue? If so, know any way to fix it? Clearing the old preferences is a temporary fix, but surely there has to be something more permanent

When that happens, it usually means that Finale thinks a key has been pressed when it hasn't. Pressing the offending key (if you know what it is) sometimes clears it. Rebooting the computer should work, or perhaps just restarting Finale, and be easier than resetting the preferences. But if it keeps happening, you should contact MakeMusic support.

i actually did contact them, but since they have stopped offering support for 2014.5, they weren't able to help me and directed me here or to download finale v.26

And even if they had helped you, they would not have given you an answer because they don't have one. The "virtual stuck key" was an issue for years, and restarting the computer was the best solution, for me at least. They never found the cause, because it manifested itself on different keys on different systems.

Admittedly, though, I have not had it happen on v. 26. <knocks on desk...>

I'm currently downloading the v.26 demo. We'll see if i have the same issues
