Overlapping Noteheads

I'm trying to create the following passage. However, when I create the upper-line 8th notes and give the first one an invisible notehead the stem position changes. That requires me to manually adjust every single occurrence of the overlap. I've tried it both using layers and voices and it seems to be the same either way. I haven't done this type of passage in awhile, but it seems like it used to be much easier because the stem stayed in the right place. Am I missing something? Is there an easier way to accomplish this? Thanks so much!

Many publishers do not overlap noteheads like this in dotted compound time signatures. You can see that the second measure looks unusual.

I'd stick with layers, everything written out.

Instead of an invisible character for the notehead, choose the open (half note) notehead. Then the stems won't need any fixing.

Another way to help speed things up is to do one unit and copy to the other measures. Then change notes as needed.

If the notes are already entered, after making the changes to the first occurrence, you can copy the changes to similar passages using Edit Filter, use none, then check only Special Alterations: Notehead, accidental and tablature string alterations

The attached was done using the JW Change plugin for changing the noteheads. It gives options for many noteheads, including open (half note) and open (whole note).
