I am currently engaged in a project which involves re-scoring a number of arrangements I made in earlier versions of Finale, some dating back up to twenty years. In opening some of the earlier ones, I am finding that slurs are converted into beat-attached smart shapes, instead of note-attached. Does anyone know of a way of quickly converting these instead of having to delete and recreate each one? I can save some time by changing one or two and then filter-copying, but that doesn't remove the beat-attached slurs, unless I add "beat-attached to the filter, in which case it erases hairpins etc. I seem to remember there once being a conversion utility, but I can't find any reference in the manual, and my memory may be faulty in any case.

It would be possible to achieve with the JW Lua plug-in. But I don't know if such a script already exists.

Full TG Tools - Modify > Modify Slurs. It's the first one in the "Misc." tab.

Aha! So that's where it was hiding; why didn't I think of looking there …

Many thanks.

Can you say at what point in Finale's history the change-over happened? I've got a lot of stuff created with Finale 2005 that I'll need to convert one day, but I wasn't aware of this issue.

Slurs are always note attached. You can make them measure attached, but it takes a deliberate effort by selecting that option from the menu. I'm guessing you didn't do that, so looks like you're OK with your 2005 files.

From what I've read, Finale 2000 was a major, major new version with a lot of new features. I think Smart Shapes and Smart Slurs were around before that but really don't know when they were introduced. It would be interesting to see a time line of Finale development.

I can't say for certain, but if it helps, the first file I opened that exhibited the problem was from 1999. I've just opened a file from 2001 that doesn't result in the same problem.

I just tested a couple of Finale 97 files (opening in v26), and the slurs are all Note Attached.
