Hello,

is there a way to change the horizontal width of subtext slash chords in Finale?

The attached pic shows a slash chord from Sibelius vs. the same chord in Finale - sometimes I just need a "narrow" subtext chord, especially if there are four of these chords in one bar. (Broadway Copyist or Jazz font chords are just as wide in Finale; I used Pori font just for easy comparison.)

Yes, I know, "alternate bass under root" is an option, but I prefer not to use it - in my understanding this is for polychords.

You must use Pori Chords ASC Std as chord symbol font (and not Pori Chords Std and not Pori PlainChords Std).
But I think it's not possible to get the same look as in Sibelius without updating the slash symbol boundaries and placement in the font.

You can adjust the symbol angle and positioning in a font software only (e.g. FontForge):

- to fix the positioning: just change the boundaries of the slash symbol in the font according to your needs
- to fix the angle: adjust the symbol

I had the same problem with the "RealBook Chords" font in Finale.

It seems that different fonts produce different results.
Concerning the problem of having many chords in one measure, one solution is to reduce the chords (moderately, otherwise the spacing becomes unacceptable). A second staff, resized, will keep correct spacing.

@ Jan:

This is what I get when I use Pori Chords ASC Std without changing anything else...
Looks like I have to dig deep into FontForge!
Trotzdem vielen Dank!

@ michelp:

Thanks, I knew about this work-around; but the term implies... WORK! And that is exactly what I try to avoid :D
