I worked a score in SmartScore, and brought it into Finale via XML. As occasionally happens (and I mean occasionally) the Tenor/Bass staff came in an octave and a sixth low, because somewhere, a clef was dropped, yada, yada.

I used the transpose function to move the notes to the correct position, but where the score shows Fnat, they came through as F#.

Does anyone know how to enter a natural in JW Change Pitch? It will take b, bb, #, ##, X, but not n or nat, or anything I can think of.

(And now, I can't get it to do anything at all...)

My bad for giving you incomplete info. There is an F# in the key signature. Does it still work?

So you mean that, since there's an F# in the key signature, you have an unadorned F, but you would like it to read F-natural? That works with the settings I showed above.

No. There is an F with the sharp in the score. I need it to show and play back an F natural. I know I can step through and change them individually, but I thought this would be a job for the plugin.

Have you tried Jari's JW Accidentals pluigin? Since I don't know exactly what is happening in your file, I ran a test but it may not fit your situation. I set up the key of G. I entered an F# in 2 different measures. I then changed the second F# to an F natural. Lastly, I hid the natural, so it looks like an F# (in G, nothing showing). The JW Accidentals plugin caught the F natural. I chose to have it corrected, and the Natural now appears.

Maybe you can post a sample file so we can test things out.

If I'm understanding you correctly, Mike, my solution will work. "F" means F-natural to the plug-in. If it's an accidental, it will display a natural. Have you tried it?

If that doesn't fix it, post a screen shot.

I’ll try it when I’m back up in the office.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, if you do that, all the F#s that should stay as F#s would be changed to Fs. If that is what's wanted, then that's okay. However, I was under the impression that only some of what appear to be F#s should be changed. Am I missing something? if it was just one spot, then the plugin is the long way around the situation. The easiest way is to just press the - sign on the note. Why bother with a plugin?

Good point, but in this case, it’s just in one staff, for the most part. So applying the plugin to selected regions might still save time. Of course, it may not...

Until that mind-reading plug-in comes along, I don't see how to automate changing only some of the F-sharps to F-naturals.

The NoteMover Tool "Search and Replace" feature, as clunky as it is, allows one to go through one at a time and make only the changes on the note chosen, one at a time.
