Since we're not sure what you need, I am going to guess that maybe you want a slash followed by an alternate bass? You can just type a slash and then the alternate bass, and that should work. For example: /G. I often do that for a walking bass, as: C /B /A /G, instead of C C/B C/A C/G.
Maybe that's not what you need. If so, then ignore the advice. As Mike suggested, we need more information.

I would like to have just the slash as a separate symbol, so that I can use it for the bass, like C / G.
It lets me have /G, but when I leave only the slash, it doesn't keep it

If you want C/G, type "C/G" with no spaces.

You can create a slash as a chord suffix. Applying it to the score is tricky, but doable. I created one. I noted what the suffix number is. In my case, it is 178. I then clicked where the slash is to go. I typed :178 and the slash appeared by itself. The colon is used to evoke a suffix. This can even be done after a letter. However, in your case, just type the colon followed by the number of the slash created as a suffix.
