Windows 10 Finale 25
I lost a .musx file but can open a .bakx by doing an (open with finale). I tried to do a "Save as" to a .musx file but couldn't.
Is there a way to do this? On the other hand, can I just leave it as a .bakx and continue to open it that way? Any advantage in changing it to a .musx file?

I'm not sure why you can't save as--just type the name without any extension. Works for me, anyway. What's the error message?

Barring that, try renaming the .bakx file to .musx outside of Finale, then opening it with the new name.

Was able to change the .bakx to .musx. There wasn't any error message. Just was concerned about it being a backup file instead of a finale file.
Thanks so much for your help. It is sincerely appreciated.

The only time Finale wouldn't allow a Save As was if the original file was a Read Only file. All I needed to do was change the original file to remove the Read Only status, and then Save As worked.

One shouldn't need to rename a .bakx file to a .musx file, as Finale opens both equally as well.

Since Finale 25.4 (or was it 25.3?) you now have the ability to save in a number of versions of MusicXML. Find these in the Export menu. While there, click on MusicXML Preferences to see all of your choices.
