It used to be that when I was entering notes in speedy. and I made a mistake in the length of the note.....I used to be able to just backspace and punch in the correct length and it was changed...now, in Finale 26, when I do this it puts a rest in that spot and moves the note I was trying to alter after that rest. Grrrrr. Any ideas?

Insert is not what is needed. That will insert a note. What is needed here is changing the duration of a note. When I press the note value key, in v26, the duration changes as expected. I use Windows, so maybe the errant behavior is unique to Mac. See if any other Mac users report here as to the behavior they are getting. As for me, it's A-OK.

It definitely does not happen to me with F 26 on a Mac. If I backspace I can change the note value as before and do not get a rest instead.
It seems likely that something in Speedy Options is not set up correctly.

Note I said toggle "Insert Notes or Rests". With it checked, pressing a number key when using MIDI entry will insert a rest. With it unchecked, a number key will change the rhythmic value (5 = quarter note, for example). I'm pretty sure this is what Mike describes. This is a sticky setting. I don't know what the default is out of the box, but perhaps Mike toggled it by mistake. As you see, the Insert key toggles on Windows. I don't know if the Mac has such a key.

On a Mac Shift with letter I (while in the Speedy Tool) should toggle it.

Because this is off by default, I figured you meant toggle on. I see now that you meant toggle off. I would have figured that out had I read the original post describing the problem more carefully. Oops.
