Very slow start up

Finale 2014.5 takes about 15 seconds from when I double click to when it's ready. This is Windows 10, on a very fast computer with lots of memory and a solid state drive. Anyone know what's going on? Is is trying to contact MM on the internet (automatic updates is turned off). Is it Windows Security checking for malware? Things are somewhat faster subsequent times each day--maybe 7 seconds.

I've tried putting it on the exceptions list in Windows Security to no avail, so presumably that's not the reason. I guess it could be Windows loading the program, though 15 seconds is a huge amount time on such a fast processor.

My guess is that's it's trying to contact MM servers, things are broken, and it eventually times out. I guess I can find out by watching network traffic with something like Wireshark, but I wonder if anyone knows.

I'm just wondering. In the frantic digital world a Finale 2014.5 might already be considered an 'oldish' version. Is there a reason for you hanging on to that? (With Finale 26 on Windows 10 I've encountered no such problems.)

Under the Help menu is a choice called "Help Improve Finale". If this is active, Make Music can collect information from your computer when you are using Finale, if I'm understanding correctly. You might check to see if this is active and turn it off if it is.

Until recently I had a 32-bit machine. I've upgraded now, but aside from being up-to-date, there's not a strong reason for me to upgrade. I rarely stack articulations; I forget what else there's been, but I think not much. It's not that I don't want to spend the money on the upgrade, but rather that a new version always involves some getting used to, and something always breaks. I'm skeptical that it would solve this problem, and traditionally a new version introduces new ones, bit I'm sure I will eventually.

I actually still have 2005 and 2011 which I use occasionally on old files to make corrections, rather than suffer the time and risk of converting them.

Have all the JW plug-ins been converted to 64-bit, by the way?

I contacted support regarding this issue. For me, working with Finale 26, this issue was solved by changing the ASIOEnabled property in %appdata%\MakeMusic\Finale 26\FINMIDI.INI to 0.
