In the attached song for flute, voice, and piano, I have chosen to have the tempo markings show above the flute and piano staves but not above the voice staff, as it looks really cluttered if I have them above the flute, voice, and piano. The flute will not be playing from this score, but from a part, so it seems logical that I have the tempo markings only above the voice and piano staves, but it just looks wrong not to have them above the top staff of the score, as well.
Will the singer see the tempo markings if they are only above the flute and piano staves?!?
Maybe I should have them above flute, voice, and piano, in spite of the cluttered look.
Any opinions? Is there a standardized protocol for this in songs with just one extra instrument added to the usual voice and piano?
Thanks!
