I have the staff tool active, I click on a bar, and I type "s" for slash notation. This is what it looks like. I assume this black bar shouldn't be displayed.
Can you help?

If the black bar disappears when "Show Staff Styles" is unselected in the Staff menu, it means that it is the bar that appears to inform you that a staff style is active. If it is the case, you have to change its color :
Go to the program Preferences -> Display Colours -> Interface Colors.
For "Staff Style Bars", I suspect that the color is black. Change it to a lighter color.

That bar could “be displayed” - but it should not print.
As michelp explains, you can customize the display color, and you also can de-select the display:
In the Staff menu you have both
Show Staff Styles
and
Show Staff Style Names
When “Show Staff Styles” and “Show Staff Style Names” are toggled on, they will display, but only when you are in the Staff Tool.
And they will not print.

Thanks, it was strange. I went to the color and it said it was white. Then when I left the preferences, the color was extremely light.
I ended up unclicking Show Staff Styles and the black line disappeared, so I am good with it. Thanks.
