I haven't had any problem inputting a single triplet, but as in the attached example I'm having difficulty inputting several of them in a row. The time sig is 4/4 and the problem is in meas.3. I have made measure 4 into 12/8 in order to show how I want the notes to appear, but I can't get a series of triplets into meas.3 without a confused visual result. See attached. My method is to press Option/3, and then input the triplet, but this method stops working after the second or third triplet. What am I doing wrong? (BTW I don't want to rewrite the time sig as 12/8.) Thanks!

From your saying "Option 3," it sounds like you're using Speedy entry. For a quarter+eighth triplet, instead use Option-1, followed by Enter, then your quarter and eighth.

That works, but the tuplet definition window comes up before inputting each triplet. Should it be that way?

Speedy Entry doesn't allow the definition to be recalled as a default. Simple does. You might try Simple for this. Press Alt-9 after entering the first quarter, set it to 3 8ths in place of 2, and select the option to make this the default. Then, on the next triplet, just enter the quarter and press 9. Then you only need to enter the 8th note. On the last beat (3 8ths) this definition also works. Enter the first 8th and press 9. I believe the 9 needs to be on the number-pad.

Note: my instructions are on Windows. I can't recall the modifier key on a Mac equivalent to Alt.

Yes, that's why I said press Enter. The normal Option-3 means "three of whatever note I enter next," which is why it doesn't work for quarter+eighth triplet.

As Zuill says, Simple Entry is an alternative. It may be a toss-up as to which you find easier. (I think the Mac has an Alt key.) You can get into a rhythm in Speedy of automatically pressing Enter after Option-1 (the defaults of the dialog are what you want.)

Ah. Of course. The default is what's needed in this case. For any other definition, then Simple potentially could be faster. But Speedy already has the correct setting with Opt-1.
