How can I get the barline to be at the far left? Not like this illustration

Could be an artifact of the display (try zooming in and out). If not, attach your file and someone will take a look; you've probably changed some setting.

Finale's onscreen rendering is not so good. The example should print out accurately, and that's what matters to most users.

In Finale screen display there are many details that change with different view sizes. If in doubt, print to a PDF to check.
